Bathroom Mirror Types: Frameless, Framed, Floating or Mirrored Cabinet?

There are different ways to buy a mirror. You can order a frameless mirror and glue to the wall, buy a framed piece, order or buy a mirrored cabinet…

The ideal type will depend on your goals, so let’s start understanding the differences between the options.

Frameless flat bathroom mirrors

These are ordinary plain mirrors, fixed on the wall. They are clean and beautiful.

It’s the ideal type for those who want a fully mirrored wall, for example.

But frameless mirrors are more commonly chosen to cover a larger area. Then the material cost compensates the lack of frame or structure, and it may turn out more expensive than a smaller piece of another type.

Beveled bathroom mirrors

Another version of frameless mirrors, this type has a different finish on the edges. They are chamfered, looking like a frame.

Beveled mirrors are used in classical decorations, usually combined with sophisticated fixtures.

Framed bathroom mirrors

Framed mirrors are ready-made pieces with a more decorative appeal.

There are models of various formats, which can be new or found in antique shops. It is a great choice for powder rooms, where a large mirror isn’t necessary.

Although it may be more expensive than a frameless mirror, the installation is easier. You just hang it, as a painting.

Floating bathroom mirrors

This is another way to emphasize the mirror, since it is very thin itself, and has no volume when fixed directly on the wall.

The floating type is the mirror glued to a wooden plate, with a structure behind creating an offset from the wall. It gets even nicer with built-in lighting above and below it.

Mirrored cabinets

If the undercounter cabinet is not enough to storage all your items, you should think of a mirrored cabinet instead of a regular mirror.

Even if it is narrow (15 cm / 6″ deep), you can store most hygiene items. Larger items, like a hairdryer, can be kept in the undercounter cabinet.

It can either be completely mirrored, when the intention is to make the cabinet look like it’s just a mirror, or have open and closed parts, when you want to display decorative objects.

As with floating mirrors, you can take advantage of the volume of the closet to embed lighting.
