Types of Shower Heads and Panels: Handheld, Dual, Ceiling or Wall Mounted

Buying the right shower requires a lot of attention, once there are many available features and installation types.

You can start checking if you need any special feature, as this may limit your installation options. Once you’ve done that, all is left to do is choosing one of the following types of shower heads.

(Wall-mounted) fixed shower heads

Controled by a separate valve, this type has the pipes imbedded in the wall.

Ceiling-mounted shower heads

An interesting option to make the most of large enclosures, as you can stay in the center instead of next to the wall.

The direction of the water is also different, as it falls completely vertically.

The installation of a ceiling shower has to be well planned: study how to take the plumbing to the shower position, plan a false ceiling to hide this pipe, and limit the ceiling height to 2.50m / 8 ft so the shower doesn’t get too high.

Check the size of the chosen model to make sure it will not be too low either.

Handheld shower heads

The head is connected to the valve by a hose, and held by support on the wall.

The advantage is you can dettach it from the support and head it to a different direction.

For if you want a fixed shower, so you can have a larger head with more features available, but also a flexible handheld shower

Shower panels

For a wider range of features, this type has a full panel with different nozzles and, in the case of this model, a handheld shower too.

Note that each type has its specific water supply placement.

In case you’re renovating and replacing an existing shower, you can choose a type that works for the current installation, so you don’t have to addapt your plumbing.

If you’re building, go ahead and pick whichever you like better. Then provide the proper plumbing for it.
