Walk-in Closet vs Wardrobe in Bedroom
A walk-in closet is a dream for many people. But that doesn’t mean that this is always the most practical setting for your routine.
If your house or apartment already has a room for a walk-in closet, great. Plan your wardrobes in that space and keep the bedroom free for bed and other furniture.
However, if you have a single space and are wondering whether it’s worth dividing it in a bedroom and a walk-in closet or simply making a wardrobe in the bedroom itself, check out these tips!
Start by drawing a plan with your room dimensions. Then draw the two alternatives – or more, if you have several possible placement options.
In which alternative you get more closet space?
Sometimes a large wardrobe on a bedroom wall can make more of the space than a U-shaped walk-in closet, for example, in which the corners are more difficult to use and access.
Then, compare the two alternatives considering the space left for the bedroom. Is it worth making it smaller in order to have a walk-in closet?
Imagine yourself in both situations after you finish your build. What will be more practical in everyday life?
In each layout, what furniture do you have to support yourself to dress, to leave used clothes, etc.? In which one do you spend more time walking from place to place?
Finally, imagine which situation is more pleasant. A walk-in closet can end up getting too dark if it has no windows.
An advantage of having a walk-in closet is no need for doors, which reduces the budget and makes access more practical.
Therefore, there is no single answer for all cases.
In general, walk-in closets are better in longer and narrower rooms, because even with the separate closet, the room still has a good space.
In square bedrooms, the a walk-in closet usually takes up too much space in the room. It gets more spacious to choose a wall and make a wardrobe on its whole width.
