Gas vs Electric vs Induction Ranges, Cooktops & Ovens
Wondering which fuel type your new range or cooktop should have? The best choice for you depends on your home’s conditions, your budget and lifestyle.
If you don’t have gas supply, one of the electric options will suit you better. If you have gas, but no 220V outlet, a gas stove will be much easier to install.
If you have both options, consider the pros and cons of each type:

Gas ranges, cooktops and ovens
This type uses fire for cooking.
This is usually the preferred type of burners by cooks, as they allow a more precise control of the heat.
Coil electric ranges and cooktops
These stoves have spiral-shaped metal coils that get heat up by electricity.
This type is the cheapest among electric options, in a similar price range as gas models.
The downside is the longer time it takes to heat the burners, and also to cool them down after turned off.
Smoothtop electric ranges and cooktops
They look modern and are easier to clean than gas and coil electric stoves.
But need a more careful maintenance, as they can get scratches and stains. To avoid them, clean up spills quickly and don’t use glass and cast iron pans.
More expensive than the previous types, these models usually offer special features.
Electric ovens
For the two previous range types or for separate ovens like in this photo, electric ovens are preferred by cooks, for providing a more even temperature.
Dual fuel ranges
These ranges use both gas and electricity.
They combine the best types of the two parts, with gas burners and electric oven.
Induction cooktops
These cooktops heat the food directly via electromagnetism. They only work with metallic pots and pans.
As smoothtop electric models, these are super slim and have a modern look. This type is the quickest to cook, most precise and efficient.
The temperature of the surface doesn’t change, making this a safe option for families with kids.
The cons are the higher price and electricity consumption.
Have you decided which is your favorite fuel type? Gas, electric, induction or a combination of those?
